This week marks the third last episode of American Horror Story: Apocalypse. This is a scary thought considering there’s so much left to be wrapped up and we’re still in flashback mode.

The episode kicks off with Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) discovering the charred remains of his besties, Grand Chancellor Ariel (Jon Jon Briones), Baldwin Pennypacker (BD Wong), and Miriam Meade (Kathy Bates). As he wails like a bad Luke Skywalker discovering Darth Vader is his father, everyone’s favourite Supreme, Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) rocks up.

She offers Langdon an opportunity to leave his dark Antichrist life behind and join the good fight. If merely being a good person wasn’t enough of an incentive, Cordelia also had hidden Meade’s soul in a part of the spirit world that only she can access, pretty much leaving Langdon alone forever if he chooses not to follow the Supreme. He rejects her offer, vowing to kill her and everyone she knows.

Langdon then runs away and goes on a Satanic walkabout of sorts and prays for Daddy Satan’s help. A few days pass by in what can only be described as the acid trip from hell, Langdon hallucinates seeing spooky children, an angel in a nappy and then finally a goat, who he proceeds to brutally stab and then tear the horns off. Of course, snakes slither out of the holes. Because you know this season really can’t get enough of them.

Covered in goat blood and looking like a hot mess, Langdon discovers a Satanist cult congregating on their day of worship. There’s a priest named Hannah (Sandra Bernhard) who chastises the congregation for not being evil enough. For instance, she robbed a nursing home and gave all the money to the NRA. Now that’s super evil!

Michael is sitting at the back feeling all sorry for himself when he meets Madelyn(Harriet Sansom Harris) who offers him a hot meal and a place to stay. She explains how she sold her soul to the devil and now has the privilege of doing non-stop heroin without the sweats, owning a La-Z-Boy, doing Brad Pitt on Wednesdays and Ryan Reynolds on Fridays. The simple things, right?

Anyways, Langdon with his parent issues reveals to Madelyn his true identity, she takes him to Black Mass showing the congregation his mark of the beast, which earns him the honour of performing the human sacrifice. Specifically a social worker and a member of Doctors Without Borders. Gotta admit we’re lucky not to work in professions where Satanists want to sacrifice us.

The Satanists rejoice in finally finding their leader, but now he’s confused as to what to do next. Talk about a crisis of evil faith. Madelyn takes Langdon to meet two coke addict sex-obsessed tech genius Satanist billionaires played by Evan Peters and Billy Eichner with uber bad wigs. There’s Ms. Venable (Paulson) as their executive assistant, and even then she was pretty heartless and had a fascination with the colour purple.

Obviously, these guys are the beginning of The Cooperative. After burning a woman alive before their eyes, Langdon asks the pair to bring his beloved Miriam back to life. They use their robotic technology to create Miriam 2.0 who wakes up and instantly recognising Michael while setting the wheels in motion to take the series full circle.
