Firstly, let it be clear. I was rather fond of the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot. I thought that film got way more flack than it deserved. Kristen Wiig, Kate Mckinnon, Leslie Jones, and Melissa McCarthy did a superb job.

However, I do believe where that film went wrong was after all these years, fans didn’t want a reboot, they wanted a continuation of the story, and it seems that it is coming in the form of Ghostbuster: Afterlife.

This film is set to be a direct sequel and will reportedly bring back the original Ghostbusters’ cast (with the exception of Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014) to pass the torch to a younger generation of heroes.

Today we get our first proper look at the film, and in my opinion, it looks like we’ll not only be getting a worthy sequel in the spirit of the original but also a film that will open the franchise to a whole new generation.

In much the same way that Star Wars: The Force Awakens had the new generation of heroes learning about those who came before, it seems Ghostbusters: Afterlife is repeating that formula in an even more precise way.

There’s the original uniforms, Ecto-1, the news report featuring the original Ghostbusters after they saved New York, even a brief cameo from Slimer. It has all the nostalgia while offering up something new.

While I absolutely adored the trailer and the direction the film seems to be taking, I hope the film itself does the franchise justice and opens doors to future installments.

What do you think of the trailer?
